TerrAddict is a community built around a shared passion for reptiles, amphibians, insects, arthropods and other exotic pets. So that everyone can find inspiration, support and respect here, please follow these simple, essential guidelines.
1Top priority: the welfare of your animals
- Never post photos or videos showing an animal that is suffering, stressed, underfed, injured, in a forced incomplete shed, in dangerous cohabitation, or in an unsuitable enclosure.
- Avoid unnecessary or stressful staging (selfies too close up, excessive handling, grouping solitary animals such as bearded dragons, pogonas, etc.).
- If you share a sick or struggling animal, ask for help constructively (without judgement) and mention that you are consulting an exotic animal vet where possible.
2Compliance with French law
- Strictly comply with the regulations in force: the French order of 8 October 2018 (keeping of non-domestic species), CITES, protection of wild species, certificate of competence where required, etc.
- Never offer for sale or adoption animals caught in the wild (unless a legal exemption can be proven).
- For protected or regulated species: clearly state the legal status in your listings (e.g. “Captive bred – not CITES listed”).
- Illegal or dubious listings will be removed and may lead to the suspension of the account.
3Content and posts
- Only post your own photos/videos, or ones you have the explicit permission of the people concerned to post.
- No shocking, gory, violent, sexual, hateful or discriminatory content, and nothing that encourages animal cruelty.
- Avoid spam, unauthorised disguised advertising, chain messages, unmoderated contests or repetitive messages.
- In the marketplace: be accurate (sharp photos, clear prices, location, actual availability). No scams, no fake bidding.
4Interactions between members
- Stay courteous and constructive, even when you disagree. Criticise practices, not people.
- No harassment, insults, threats, doxxing or personal attacks.
- Respect other people’s choices (e.g. don’t systematically judge substrates, lighting types or diets if they suit the species).
- Use the secure marketplace chat in a professional and honest way.
5Listings and transactions
- Transactions are carried out under your own responsibility. TerrAddict is not an intermediary and does not guarantee exchanges.
- Favour hand-to-hand handovers or carriers specialised in exotic animals where possible.
- Immediately report any suspicious behaviour (non-delivery, fake photos, etc.) using the “Report” button.
6Reporting and moderation
- If you see content or behaviour that goes against these guidelines, use the Report button (discreet and quick).
- The moderation team (human + AI) reviews reports and may remove content, issue a warning, or suspend or ban an account.
- No public calls for sanctions: contact support through the app.
7When in doubt…
- Read the species sheets in the TerrAddict encyclopedia (based on current best practices).
- Ask your questions in the comments or create a dedicated post: the community is here to help!
- For specific veterinary or legal advice: contact a qualified exotic animal vet or the competent authorities.
Thank you for helping make TerrAddict a positive, educational and respectful space for all enthusiasts, from beginners to professionals. Your behaviour is what makes this community strong.
Happy responsible herpetoculture!
